If you want to kill a person’s ambition and make them weak, indulge them.
For maximum effect, start young.
I should know.
Misguidedly, my family thought they were protecting me from the struggles of “real” life by never making me accountable when in actuality they were undermining my confidence and motivation. (I was going nowhere fast.)
This resulted in years of difficult personal relationships, self-indulgence and underachievement, requiring a herculean effort on my part to recognize my potential (value) and develop it.
Today I’m grown and have come to terms with my upbringing, having become my own person. So this isn’t about blame. I’m way beyond that. It’s about experience.
Having been there and done that, makes my resolve unshakeable, and has nothing to do with mysticism or the esoteric. (You can’t gain wisdom from books and gurus.) I discovered know who am and took complete responsibility for my life.
Being a graduate from the school of hard knocks, there’s not much I haven’t seen in human nature. Therefore, I’m no longer moved by the feelings and preferences of others.
I’m secure in my decisions and liable for my actions, whether it’s in my personal or professional lives.
My understanding is grounded in reality, giving me hard-earned wisdom, which I’ll never relinquish – for any price (no joke). There’s deep security that comes from knowing and seeing things as they are while being able to deal with situations appropriately.
This is especially important when creating a legacy for yourself based on personal influence.
If you’re able to influence young people, you must lead them down the path of independence. It doesn’t matter if they’re your children or not, don’t baby and spoil them.
This is destructive and more about your fears than helping others.
Don’t hide the truth; let others take the hard walk to self-determination. It’s a perilous journey, but the only rational choice.
Therefore, you must free yourself first.
Give yourself permission to drop the fears and twisted thinking that’s holding you back. Let reality be your guide.
By living your truth, you’ll inspire others to live theirs.
